RCA and Ministry Lead Cholera Awareness Campaign in Kassala

Kassala, Sudan — In a joint effort to curb the spread of cholera and promote healthy living practices among displaced populations, the Relief Care Alliance (RCA), in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, successfully launched a Cholera Awareness and Environmental Sanitation Day at the Agricultural Research Center shelter in Kassala City.
The campaign, which targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), focused on educating communities about the importance of hygiene and sanitation in preventing infectious diseases, particularly cholera. Participants received practical, easy-to-implement guidance on personal hygiene, including handwashing with soap and clean water, safe food storage, and environmental cleanliness—critical behaviors in the fight against waterborne illnesses.
RCA’s team used innovative and inclusive methods to engage participants of all ages. Children and adults alike were involved in interactive demonstrations, discussions, and activities that turned essential health messages into a memorable, community-wide learning experience. These efforts ensured that health education reached across generations and promoted shared responsibility within families and groups.
“Health starts with knowledge and simple daily actions,” said an RCA field coordinator. “By educating and mobilizing communities, we help prevent outbreaks before they start.”
This awareness day is part of RCA’s broader, integrated health strategy—developed in coordination with the Ministry of Health—to align with national public health protocols while strengthening grassroots resilience. The campaign not only supports immediate disease prevention but also contributes to building long-term health awareness and habits in displaced communities.
The RCA calls on all individuals to take part in spreading awareness:
Together, we can fight cholera. Be a role model in your community.
