Impact in Action – How RCA’s Awareness Campaigns Are Saving Lives

When communities face displacement, disease, and a lack of access to essential services, the simplest knowledge can become the greatest shield. At Relief Care Alliance (RCA), our mission is not only to respond to emergencies but to equip people with the tools they need to protect themselves — and this approach is making a measurable impact.

In recent months, RCA launched a series of health and hygiene awareness campaigns across Kassala, North Darfur, and El Fasher. These campaigns were designed in response to increasing threats of cholera, diarrheal disease, and poor sanitation in displaced communities.

Workshops focused on:

  • Teaching proper handwashing and safe water practices
  • Promoting the use and maintenance of latrines
  • Encouraging safe food handling and environmental cleanliness

The results speak volumes. In Kassala alone, over 800 individuals across 4 shelter sites participated in group trainings. In North Darfur, RCA volunteers conducted door-to-door outreach to more than 300 families, ensuring that even the most remote households received guidance and hygiene kits.

“We used to get sick often. Since RCA visited and taught us how to treat water and keep our shelter clean, we’ve seen fewer children falling ill,”

Importantly, RCA’s approach emphasizes community-led change. In every location, local volunteers are trained to carry the message forward, ensuring continuity even after the initial campaign concludes. This multiplier effect is key to sustainability.

The impact isn’t just in numbers — it’s in the sense of dignity and control returned to families who had lost so much. Parents now have the knowledge to protect their children. Youth are stepping into leadership roles as peer educators. Communities are organizing their own cleaning days and awareness sessions.

In a country where resources are scarce, knowledge becomes power, and RCA is committed to ensuring that every family has access to it.
